2018 WATCH ACCESSORIES OF THE YEAR:
Rapport London Paramount Ebony Nine
It’s either about sentiment or statement with me – my most precious pieces, some of which I wear every day, are not only beautiful objects but also remind me of special moments in my life. But on the other hand, I love the statement one can make with striking costume jewellery, and I particularly like big earrings. I know I’ve got it right if my husband raises an eyebrow and says “Pourquoi La Vache Qui Rit rit?” (referring to the picture on the front of the Laughing Cow box of cheese… he doesn’t understand my passion for big earrings.)
I am not very good at sitting still, so an active holiday is my luxury; the Ski Resort of Baqueira Beret in Northern Spain would be my favourite place. The balance between the tranquility of the chair lifts and adrenaline of the powder makes for an ideal escape.
I am a big fan of New York. It has an incredible cocktail scene and there’s so much good food and adventures to be had. I confess I am probably most relaxed though when I go scuba diving. There’s something about the freedom and solitude that keeps things in context. I just got back from a diving trip in the Galapagos and it was really mind blowing.
As a designer of my own jewellery for 30 years, I have gone through many styles from traditional, highly embellished, ornamental pieces, all the way to very modern, sleek designs. Now, what I wear has to be more than just stones and metal, it has to make me feel good at a deeper level, like an amulet or talisman.
This new conviction led me to create my jewellery brand Intisars which is totally and always inspired by the universal language of LOVE. Every piece is conceptualised around that beautiful feeling of being in love and designed in a way that this feeling never subsides.
I was born and bred in London and the focus of our business is here, so it’s important to have breaks from what can be a fast-paced and challenging environment. If I can, I love spending time near water, most recently a short break on a lake. To be able to jump in and swim, take a paddleboard or just read a book by the water in a wonderfully relaxing environment.
